A new plan for underexposed Delfshaven
Rotterdam
Historic Delfshaven project published on NRC.
"The historic neighborhood is deteriorating between dyke, road and railway. Residents, entrepreneurs and the municipality came up with these solutions together.
Delfshaven is still too much 'a hidden gem', said Dennis Ezendam, urban developer for the municipality of Rotterdam during a residents' meeting last week. He presented a new vision for the public space in Historisch Delfshaven. The list of points for improvement is considerable: the history is now invisibly encapsulated between the dyke, roads and railway lines (Westzeedijk, Schiedamsweg); poorly maintained embankments of dikes; poor accessibility by bicycle and on foot; green in the neighborhood can be more and better; there are too many and cluttered parked cars and the use of squares is not optimal.
The area vision was made in collaboration between residents, entrepreneurs, the area committee and municipal officials. It is now with the College and is intended as a 'guiding lobby document' and framework for how stakeholders hope the neighborhood will develop. "
Our vision for the public space was presented to residents and the press on 26 November. The NRC published on December 3 about the joint development of the vision by all parties involved.
