Water solutions: addressing challenges in Latin America
Online webinar
Yesterday, Eduardo Marin, Associate partner at Felixx, hosted the webinar Water solutions: addressing challenges in Latin America. With this presentation, he delved into the vibrant world of Latin America, where the region faces unique water-related challenges. Home to biodiversity hotspots and the globally-important Amazon Rainforest, Latin America is under pressure due to a changing climate. Floods, heat stress, and poor access to sanitation highlight the need for new solutions, knowledge exchange, and partnerships. As the region is increasingly suffering from the effects of floods, heat waves, drought, water shortages, and sanitation crises, the theme for this year's series is 'Prevention, Mitigation and Adaptation Approaches Against Climate Emergencies.'
Nature-based solutions (nbs)
The first webinar was scheduled for March 19th, focusing on Nature-based Solutions. Eduardo Marin Salinas, an associate partner, project leader, and researcher at Felixx hosted this session. NBS involve restoring, protecting, and using the natural water systems to effectively address water challenges, build resilience, and prevent issues such as floods, heat stress, sanitation crises, and biodiversity loss. The UN Environment Programme estimates that by 2030, global investment in NBS must triple to meet climate mitigation, biodiversity and land restoration goals. As proven examples of NBS take the forefront and gain recognition among governments and infrastructure financiers, they offer opportunities for Latin American water experts to integrate them into their operational strategies.
