K64 Keflavík Airport Area Masterplan has won The Plan Award 2023, in the category 'Transportation'.
The Plan Award is an annual international prize that recognizes excellence in architecture, interior design, and urban planning. From over 1300 projects submitted globally, the international jury selected more than 600before finalizing the shortlist of finalists.
Keflavík Airport Area Masterplan will support Iceland’s net-zero and sustainability ambitions as well as exemplify United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The design concepts promote health and well-being, appropriate densities, landscaping, and transportation, to create a sustainable city region of the future.
The masterplan for which Felixx is responsible for the landscape strategy, includes an integrated vision that links an ambitious economic development concept to sustainable urban design, landscape, and mobility strategies. Tapping into the government’s climate action plan that identifies reforestation as a top priority, the landscape concept connects the Airport Corridor into a national network of reforestation projects.
The masterplan has been developed by a multidisciplinary team led by KCAP including Wspglobal, MIC-HUB, VSO Consulting, Buck Consultants International, Buro Happold, Base Design, Maurits Schaafsma, and Kanon Arkitektar.
