In conversation with demissionary minister Hugo de Jonge
The effective use of power of design
Felixx was invited by BSNP/NVTL to join a round table conversation with demissionary minister Hugo de Jonge to show the power of research by design and how we can contribute to the reconstruction of the Netherlands. Deborah Lambert, founding partner of Felixx, introduced ‘’New Space’’, our Design Guideline Liveability of Public space. She showcased how this Guideline can be used as a tool to design sustainable public spaces in growing cities.
The main goal of the talk was how we can use the power of design to find answers to the social, economic, spatial and climate issues, involving residents in our multi-dimensional approach. Based on case studies, we explored various ways how to organize and anchor the power of design in organizations, decision making, and commissioning.
Among the attendees were fellow designers Lieneke van Campen and Jasper Nijveldt (Karres en Brands), Peter Veenstra (Lola), Gerwin de Vries (Flux), Deborah Lambert (Felixx), Mona zum Felde (Defacto), Harro Wieringa (Witteveen + Bos), Maurits de Hoog (coordinator of What-if verkenningen), Gido ten Dolle, and Renson van Tilborg (BZK).
About The Design Guideline
The Design Guideline is a document that serves to inspire and offers a new perspective on our public spaces. The Guide proposes a design method in which mobility is no longer normative but where accessibility, safety, perception, health, social interaction, ecology, climate adaptation, economics and cultural history together make up the street. By naming these ten dimensions at the outset, a new balance between all these interests is created.
