HabitatX Exhibition
Discovering climate-adapted life in coexistence of humans, animals and plants
As part of the IBA International Bauausstellung ’23, the exhibition HABITAT X unveils the concept of coexistence between humans, animals, and plants in a climate-adapted setting. The exhibition aims to go beyond the exclusively human-focused approach to planning and building by featuring the contributions of Bureau Baubotanik from Stuttgart, Studio Animal-Aided Design from Berlin, and Felixx Landscape Architects & Planners.
One of the significant exhibits is our Catalogue of Nature-based Solutions for Urban Resilience, published in 2021. With extensive expertise in Nature-based Solutions, Felixx has been at the forefront of research and project implementation at various scales worldwide. Our work demonstrates how interdisciplinary research can facilitate the successful integration of biodiversity into urban planning and design. This guidance document offers insights into ways to mitigate multiple climate-change related hazards in the urban environment, with particular emphasis on flood management and heat stress mitigation and shows innovative approaches that allow plants, animals, and humans to thrive together. Developed in collaboration with the World Bank Group, Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), Nelen & Schuurmans, @unstudio_architecture, Rebel, and UNSense.
About the exhibition
The exhibition deals with current issues relating to our built environment: How can construction respond to changes in the life cycles of buildings and open spaces? How must the cultural practice of planning be modified to do justice to inclusive aspects? How can local conditions and different time horizons be taken into account more?
The works of the three offices involved in the exhibition show how interdisciplinary research can be used to develop the principles, methods and planning tools for the successful integration of biodiversity into the planning and design of urban spaces. Curated by Iris Lenz, Stefan Werrer and the Bureau Baubotanik.
