Strategic Green Plan Leuven
Unanimous approval
We are excited to announce that the Strategic Green Plan for Leuven, developed by Felixx in collaboration with Witteven+Bos has been unanimously approved by the city council and municipal executive board. This transformative plan sets the stage for a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient future.
The plan leverages the power of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to create a resilient green-blue network, seamlessly integrating Leuven’s urban spaces with its distinctive natural features, including the Dijle River and the surrounding hills and plateaus. By incorporating Ecosystem Services, it ensures essential benefits—such as air purification, water management, and recreation—are embedded into the city’s development, offering tailored solutions that address the unique needs of each district.
This forward-thinking strategy enhances biodiversity, boosts quality of life, and aligns Leuven with the ambitious goals of the European mission ‘100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030.’ It reflects the city’s strong commitment to sustainable growth and positions it as a trailblazer in climate resilience and urban innovation.
