Innovative Workshop at Stockholm World Water Week
Pioneering Multidisciplinary Solutions for Climate-Resilient Urban Water Management
We are pleased to announce that Felixx, in collaboration with the Government of the Netherlands – RVO and Witteveen+Bos, will host the workshop “Role Rolling: Multidisciplinary Solutions for Climate-Resilient Urban Water Management” at the World Water Week in Stockholm this summer. This engaging workshop will utilize role-playing to foster innovative strategies for watermanagement, bridging the gap between investors and government through an integrated design approach, offering solutions that benefit all stakeholders.
World Water Week, organized annually by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), is the premier global event addressing water issues. It gathers experts, practitioners, decision-makers, business innovators, and young professionals from various sectors and countries to devise solutions for the world's most pressing water-related challenges. This year's overarching theme, "Bridging Borders: Water for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future," emphasizes the interconnectedness of communities and the collective efforts necessary for global sustainability and peace.
Inspired by the "Water as Leverage" (WaL) project in Cartagena, the session will utilize role-playing to explore the dynamics of collaborative water management focusing on la Cienaga, a swamp north of the city. Water as Leverage (WaL) integrates urban climate action with social development and economic growth, catalyzing sustainable resilience through stakeholder engagement, coalition-building, and design-driven infrastructural projects. In 2023, two multidisciplinary teams in Cartagena, as part of the WaL program, developed conceptual designs and project proposals up to the pre-feasibility stage, as foundation for transforming concepts into actionable projects.
This initiative has highlighted the importance of diverse expertise in leveraging innovative perspectives to create sustainable and environmentally resilient urban water systems. It will serve as the starting point for the serious game and open discussion in Stockholm, scheduled for August 25.
The workshop will focus on integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to enhance resilience through innovative strategies in water governance. Participants will engage in hands-on activities to integrate design, financing, and practical implementation strategies, underscoring the significance of multidisciplinary collaboration in addressing the complexities of urban water management.
about the session
Robert Proos from the Government of the Netherlands will kick off the workshop by introducing the "Water as Leverage Cartagena" methodology and outlining our workshop objectives. Participants will engage in the role-playing game where they take on diverse stakeholder roles. We will collaboratively explore and solve water-related tasks using innovative design-driven approaches. Groups will present their strategies after a brainstorming sessions. These proposals will showcase the innovative solutions developed to address the complexities of water management in Cartagena. Felixx and Witteveen+Bos will conclude the workshop by sharing their design proposals for the area, emphasizing the importance of integrating diverse perspectives to create practical and sustainable solutions for urban landscapes.
Join us in this transformative workshop to explore how NBS can revolutionize urban water management and pave the way for sustainable global initiatives.
