Start Construction Eemsdelta Campus
Construction of earthquake-resistant and sustainable Eemsdelta Campus in Appingedam has started
The tender for the Eemsdelta Campus has been successfully completed. The construction of the campus has been awarded to BAM Bouw en Techniek. “The construction has been put out to tender within the budget of 35,5 milion euros which means that we can now concentrate on realizing the dream,” says Klaas Reinders, director of the New Construction Education Campus Project Office. Construction will start this month. The campus is expected to open its doors in the 2022/2023 school year.
Regional Heart
The Eemsdelta Campus will not only give an impulse to the region in terms of high-quality education, but also to sports clubs and cultural programs. The campus accommodates four schools with a total of 1,700 pupils: the George Martens School, the Rudolph Pabus Cleveringa Lyceum, Theda Mansholt College and Noorderpoort. The 4 ha area around the campus is being developed as an educational landscape: an (outdoor) space for classes, recreation, sports and activities between the schools, associations and companies in the region. The developments of this unique project in the Eemsdelta region can be followed at www.eemsdeltacampus.nl.
Work closely together
According to Reinders, the successful tender is the result of the close collaboration between the client, Stichting VO Eemsdelta and the design team (DeUnie + Felixx), with the positive involvement of the municipalities of Delfzijl and Appingedam. “We have all worked hard to make the ambitions feasible. This has resulted in a detailed design that really involves all parties. This also makes it clear to BAM Bouw en Techniek what was expected during construction so they were able to make a good offer."
Wide range of facilities
The Eemsdelta Campus is therefore on track to realize its vision: a campus in which every form of education has room for its own identity and needs and has access to an exceptionally rich range of facilities. Think of studios for film, music and graphic techniques, a science wing with laboratories, a theater, a dance hall, a multicourt, indoor sports halls, technical workshops, vegetable gardens, picking gardens, a sports beach, a tiny forest and much more to explore. There is plenty of room for experiencing and discovering yourself, both inside and outside ”. This large amount of facilities is possible due to the smart building layout, the cooperation between the schools and the combination with social sports and cultural functions.
Social vision
The vision of Eemsdelta Campus has been jointly established. During the design of the buildings and the site, education, sustainability, nature inclusion and integration of the social needs and functions in the Eemsdelta were always considered. The future users are closely involved in this: DeUnie + Felixx held more than 40 workshops, the results of which were incorporated into the design. “The campus will actually become a place for the community. Soon you will be able to take a course here in the evenings and you might catch a glimpse of a rehearsal of the Damster Stedelijk Harmonie Orkest ”.
