Almere Centre Vision 2040
FELIXX + POSADMAXWAN ARE SELECTED TO DEVELOP THE ALMERE CENTRE VISION 2040!
From Garden City to Nature-Based city
Almere is growing from 220.000 inhabitants currently, towards 350.000 in the coming three decades. This densification task is used as a catalyst for realizing a climate-adaptive city centre. Nature-Based Solutions form the development framework for organizing this growth. This framework guides the third iteration in the development of Almere. Arising from the ideals of the Garden City, Almere was set up as a collection of equivalent urban cores in a green-blue landscape. To support the city’s growth, the current center was envisioned in the 90’s. The Masterplan for the current center by OMA brought hierarchy to the urban cores. The development framework by Felixx and PosadMaxwan will redefine the relation between the urban cores and the landscape framework. By 2040, the inner city of Almere will be defined by the Weerwater lake, merging with the surrounding urban fabric. This hybrid urban landscape provides space for new facilities, employment, social encounters, continuing dwelling densification and where nature can regulate itself. An appealing and natural habitat is what connects the different functions.
We look forward to a great collaboration with the municipality of Almere, and a diverse group of advisors: Michelle Provoost, Buiting Advies, Nelen & Schuurmans, Merosch, Sander van der Ham.
