Erlongshan Recreational Park is developed in a mountainous landscape, centered around an artificial lake. The development of this new park fits within a bigger trend, making landscapes around big cities accessible due to the increasing pressure for recreation possibilities. This masterplan aims to provide new facilities, without destroying the natural conditions of the landscape.

The site for Erlongshan Recreational Park is characterized by a strong polarization: beautiful and untouched natural grounds in strong contrast with very dramatic cultural artefacts to create the artificial lake. The masterplan builds on this duality by creating a hedonistic landscape park: it preserves and even strengthens the natural character of the site, adding very outspoken cultivated artefacts to make the landscape experienceable.

The diverse landscape conditions are enhanced. Three different network types are carefully integrated, varying on the landscape types they are located in: the lake, the forest and the mountain. The networks connect a collection of cultural artefacts. Recreational facilities, designed as overwhelming man-made sculptures.
