FROM A PAVED TERRAIN TO A CLIMATE-ADAPTIVE GREEN CAMPUS
SUMMA COLLEGE EINDHOVEN
The Summa College Campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, houses approximately 4200 students spread over four buildings. The campus faces challenges in terms of climate change, mobility and social significance. Commissioned by Summa College, Felixx was asked to investigate how the fragmented campus with different buildings can merge into a cohesive, sustainable campus site that is climate-proof, green and healthy. A public area that is not only accessible to students and teachers, but also to the neighbourhood.
In a participatory research process with students, teachers and neighbouring residents, Felixx distilled five essential themes for a future proof campus and proposed two scenario’s for this transition. The ‘Low-Hanging Fruit’ suggests measures that can be implemented short term. The ‘Dot on the horizon’ shows how the area can take shape in the future and adapt to new technologies.
This project was part of the Spatial Design Voucher Scheme by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, that aims to examine and reinforce both local and regional spatial policies. Read more about the schema and research here.
