Felixx designs climate adaptive roof garden
Rotterdam
Felixx designed a green, climate adaptive roof garden for De Drukkerij, a new residential tower that will be developed in Rotterdam Alexander. The layout of the roof garden contributes to a better climate and a healthy living environment for humans and animals, due to the storage of rainwater, the limiting of heat stress and by increasing the biodiversity in the area.
Traditional black roofs can be up to 20 degrees Celsius warmer than the ambient temperature. The green roof of De Drukkerij does not have this disadvantage and contributes to a positive urban climate and higher water storage capacity. The water allows the plants and shrubs to grow abundantly and the various plant species will absorb the water and party evaporate through the leaves. This will results in pleasant temperatures on the roof. The varied greenery will in turn provide room for nesting, feeding and shelter to birds, butterflies and other insects.
