Waterfront Novosibirsk
Hybrid Embankment Park
Novosibirsk has developed an ambitious strategy to turn its embankment into an attractive front side of the city. The transformation of industrial areas along the Ob river into new mixed use quarters is deployed to realize this ambition.
‘Europeysky bereg’ acts as a forerunner in the development of the city’s waterfront. It is an attractive city district, reinforcing the link between the city and the Ob sea, while turning the embankment into a continuous realm.
Therefore the riverfront is treated as a hybrid structure of parks, squares, streets and courtyards. Specific anchor point are identified to create a programmatic and functional link to the water.
